Methodology The polling pool consisted of 527 residents of North and South Dakota aged 18 and older whose residence had a listed telephone number. Households called were selected at random from statewide telephone listings. In order to insure a representative statewide sample, the total number surveyed in each county was based on population as reported in the 2000 census. Eighteen volunteers, students and faculty members conducted the telephone interviews. All calls were made between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., taking into consideration the difference in Central and Mountain Time Zones. Margin of Error - The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 4 percent for the entire sample, with entire statewide sample margins of error at plus or minus 6 percent. Subset sample margins of error vary depending on selected sample sizes. Totals may not equal 100% as all percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number. Sampling error is only one of many potential sources of error in this or any other pubic opinion poll. DWU TIGER POLL RESEARCH TEAM Faculty
