Number of interviews - 410 The polling pool consisted of 410 residents of South Dakota aged 18 and older whose residence had a listed telephone number. Households called were selected at random from a statewide telephone listing. In order to insure a representative statewide sample, the total number surveyed in each county was based on population as reported in the 2000 census. Eighteen students and faculty members conducted the interviews using a 10-line phone bank. Non-English speakers were called back by an interpreter, if one was not available at the time of the original contact. All calls were made between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., taking into consideration the difference in Central and Mountain Time Zones. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus five (5) percentage points for the entire survey of 410 respondents. For results based on smaller subsets of respondents, the margin of sampling error is higher. Sampling error is only one of many potential sources of error in this or any other pubic opinion poll. |
